Wuyi Mountain Rou Gui tea, also known as Yu Gui tea, is a renowned variety of Wuyi rock tea, classified as an oolong tea. Its name comes from the tea's distinctive cinnamon-like aroma, which inspired the name "Rou Gui" (Cinnamon). According to *Chong'an County Gazetteer*, Rou Gui tea had already gained fame during the Qing Dynasty.

Rou Gui tea from Wuyi Mountain is cherished for its sharp, long-lasting fragrance and rich, smooth taste. The dry leaves are tightly curled with a dark green, glossy appearance. When brewed, the tea produces a bright amber infusion with a strong, inviting aroma. The flavor is full-bodied with a lingering sweetness, leaving a pleasant fragrance in the mouth. It is also highly resistant to multiple infusions, showcasing the signature "rock rhyme" (yan yun) characteristic of Wuyi teas.

Among the different types of Wuyi rock teas, Rou Gui stands out as a high-aroma variety. The tea plants have been carefully cultivated over generations, perfectly adapting to Wuyi Mountain's unique environment, which contributes to its exceptional quality.

Actual colors of the tea may vary somewhat from pictured. Purchase the smallest amount to try before purchasing larger amounts.

Functions and effects of cinnamon tea

1. Assist in refreshing the mind

Caffeine and other ingredients in it can stimulate the central nervous system and increase the excitability of the central nervous system, thereby playing a role in refreshing the mind and eliminating fatigue.

2. Assist in anti-oxidation

Antioxidants such as tea polyphenols are beneficial for removing free radicals, reducing cell oxidative damage, and have certain benefits for delaying aging.

3. Assist in promoting digestion

The ingredients in cinnamon tea can promote gastrointestinal motility, help digestion, and relieve gastrointestinal discomfort.

4. Assist in improving immunity

Frequent drinking of cinnamon tea can enhance the body's immune function and improve resistance.

5. Assist in lowering blood pressure

Certain ingredients in cinnamon tea help lower blood pressure and are suitable for patients with hypertension to drink in moderation.

Important Note:
While Oollong tea offers numerous health benefits, it should not replace medications for treating diseases. It is also important to consume it in moderation, as drinking too much strong tea can cause side effects like insomnia or gastrointestinal discomfort. Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and individuals with insomnia should consult a doctor and drink the tea cautiously based on their specific conditions.

This tea was excellent. Earthy in all the right ways and it can be steeped many times. Definitely recommend!

I wanted a roasted wuyi style tea that I could drink daily without issue and this tea has fit the bill. I strongly recommend letting the tea rest for a few weeks in a loosely lidded jar (something that can close but not necessarily air tight) before drinking. The first few times I drank it, the tea had an aggressive and off putting roast flavor but it has mellowed quickly. Since then it has a sweet, caramel flavor with lots of ripe cherry.
